Hello everyone! It’s Nathalie with you today to share a bit of inspiration using SCT February Sampler. This little package of awesomeness, because there is no better way to describe it, is filled with a carefully curated selection of the current products available in the market.

This month’s Sampler is so versatile, and its color palette provides infinite possibilities. I decided to create a 12” x 12” scrapbook layout about our lockdown time at home using bits and pieces from my goodies.

Supplies |  SCT Magazine February 2021 Sampler; Cardstock: Bazzill; Mixed media: Vicki Boutin; Digital cut file: Silhouette Store; Adhesive: Therm O Web; Other: Floss: DMC, pen: Altenew

I started my page by building a mixed media background. First, I added a bit of color using Vicki Boutin Art Crayons—their diluted pigment works as watercolor. Once the paint dried, I used the exclusive stencil from the Sampler to create the small heart texture on the background. By combining a bit of gesso and iridescent glaze, the texture has a satin-like finish that pops from the soft background.

What better way to showcase the patterns of the papers than to combine them all in a large word for a title? For this, I used the Conrad Alphabet cut file, available in the Silhouette Store, to cut each letter individually, then cut an offset of each letter from white cardstock. I glued the patterned paper letters to the white letter offset, then used a paper-piercing tool to create a stitching guide around the edge of the patterned paper letter. A bit of hand stitching adds dimension to the letters, helps define the letter, and, along with the white offset edge, creates a soft separation of the patterns.

Assembling this page was easy once all the pieces were ready to go. First, I glued the title straight onto the background. Then, using some of the Sampler patterned papers, I backed the photo strip of my family selfies and adhered it below the title.

Next, I used the Close to My Heart black chipboard pieces to complete the title of the layout below the pictures. Then it was all about embellishing! The black cardstock pieces were the perfect complement to the title and help to guide the viewer’s eye through the entire layout.

I love how this page turned out, and I still have plenty of material to create a few more projects.  Remember to check the SCT shop today so that you don’t miss the current Sampler subscription window. You are going to love receiving this sample-sized pack of awesomeness!
