Happy Thursday, friends! Today we would love to introduce you to a member of our community unless you already know him! Fabrice Cote is a talented card designer who has been posting the most amazing cards created with our Let’s Stamp Together kits and SCT Samplers on his Instagram feed! Let’s take a look at what Fabrice has made for us today using the March 2023 Sampler, and don’t forget to share what you’re creating using the #sctsampler hashtag, too!

Hello crafty friends! I’m Fabrice, a French-Canadian dude living in a suburban town next to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I’m so thrilled to have been asked to guest design on the SCT blog today! I started scrapbooking about 10 years ago, but it became my main hobby in 2016. I was on the design team of a local scrapbook store for two and a half years. During those years, I became more of a cardmaker. My style falls into the clean and simple category but, it just depends on what idea crosses my mind at the time. I like to stretch my supplies, and my creativity and think outside the box. I love to play with colors and I tend to make a lot of the elements on my card, like my own patterns. I love stamping and coloring my own motifs! I’ve been a subscriber of the SCT’s Sampler since January 2021.

Today, I’m sharing with you four cards made with the March 2023 Sampler! I’m using a single sheet of patterned paper, wasting nothing and using everything up. This technique is called One Sheet Wonder (or “OSW”). Usually, there are about 12 different sheets of 6×6 patterned papers in a Sampler. Imagine how many cards you could make with these papers and this technique!

Before choosing the paper you’re going to use, you need to think about the size of the pieces you’ll end up with. If the pattern is too large, it’ll be lost if the pieces are too small. For what I had in mind, I chose the paper with the party hat because the motif was small enough to still be visible on small 1.5-inch wide paper squares.

In addition to the OSW technique, I used the word die from the sampler to build dimension on my card base. So, I cut many, many words, layered them in groups of two, and glued them on my card base. Using a contrasting color with the background is great but you can use the same color for a tone-on-tone look.

Don’t have the color of enamel dots you were hoping for? Change them with embossing powder. All the enamel dots shown on these cards are the yellow ones from the Sampler. I changed their colors to better match the colors of the card using two colors of Ranger’s Embossing powder: white and Buttercup.

I chose a color from the pattern to create a paper mat for my pattern paper. Doing this helps to frame the paper by adding a bit of white space and, I have to say, I love the pop of color it adds too!! I used Concord & 9th’s Parsley and Buttercup cardstock.

Change the look by rotating different pieces of the same motif into a larger shape. Rotate the design. You have a square? Make it a diamond! Pop it out of the card base. Cut off the excess or leave it there, hanging.

The last photo is the sketch I made for my One Sheet Wonder technique. You can find a lot of variations of this technique for different sizes of paper, or you can even make your own!

Thank you for reading this post. I hope this made you think differently about your Sampler and that you’ll give the One Sheet Wonder Technique a try! Let me know if you do! Now, go get those Samplers and have fun with them!

Hey there! I’m Fabrice. Yes, I’m a dude! Yes, I’m a cardmaker! I love stamping, die-cutting, and playing with colors. One of my signature styles is to create my own motifs with stamps. I like to think outside the box with my card designs and find new ways to use my supplies. When I’m not crafting, I’m probably in front of my computer, playing video games.
