Hello everyone! It’s Lisa Dickinson here today and I’m so excited to share my latest creation with you, which was totally inspired by the spring issue of SCT! We could use a little color and light in our lives these days, and the gorgeous projects within this issue’s pages definitely brought that to mine. I l was so enamored with Paige Evan’s bright and happy creation on page 46 that I just had to try and recreate a similar page!
Not only did I love the pretty rainbow colors and clever “clothesline” technique, Paige’s use of TEN photos on one page prompted me to include more than my typical two or three photos per design!
Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: American Crafts, Pink Paislee, Simple Stories, Echo Park Paper; Chipboard: Bella Blvd; Tags: Elle’s Studio, American Crafts; Digital die cut: Blue Star Design on Etsy; Watercolors: Crayola; Stamp: One Canoe Two; Adhesive: 3M; Other: misc. buttons and twine.
Instead of stringing my photos and embellishments on ribbon, I cut three butterfly borders and filled the negative space with rainbow-ordered patterned papers. This is a great use for smaller scraps you may have lying around but haven’t used up yet!
To recreate the look of the rainbow heart background paper, I used watercolors to create a similar look on white cardstock. I started with pink and red, fading it into orange for the first band. Then I used yellow and green on the next band, finishing with aqua and blue for the last band.
Once the paint was dry, I layered the butterfly borders and my photos with color-coordinated embellishments atop the watercolors. Since there is so much color and pattern in this design, organizing the elements by rainbow color keeps things from looking too chaotic.
I have all my embellishments sorted by color, so it was easy to go through each color group to pull small accents like tags, buttons and, twine and incorporate a lot of texture and dimension in each colored area.
This was such a fun page to make and it brought a much-needed smile to my face when it was complete. After all, who can be sad when you’re looking at a rainbow?!
If you’re feeling blue, grab the spring issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today, a hot cup of tea, and get ready to smile! We’d love to see what it inspires you to create—post on social media, tagging @sctmagazine and using the hashtag #createwithsct!

That’s a really cute layout! Love the rainbow idea.
Just what we need right niw. Beautiful
I love this!!
Love the butterflies. They help make an amazing layout ❤️
So lovely! How do you paint watercolour onto cardstock without warping the paper?
Hi Shelley! I used the absolute minimum water to paint the colors, and when it was dry, I ran a warm iron (set on lowest setting with no steam) over the back of the paper to flatten it out. HTH! :)
Beautiful layout! I love how one layout inspires and sparks such creativity in another!
Cute idea, great layout.
