Hello, all you SCT fans! It’s Lisa Dickinson with you today and I’m so excited that autumn has officially arrived and the Fall 2023 Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today is now available. It is loaded with inspiration for all your projects, so grab a hot cider and settle in for plenty of fall-infused creativity!

As I was thumbing through the gorgeous pages of the issue, this two-page layout by Allison Davis on page 30 immediately caught my eye:

created by Allison Davis for the Fall 2023 Issue

I loved the innovative use of squares to create a cozy quilt-like pattern on the page and knew I wanted to try this technique on a fall page of my own!

Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper, chipboard, stickers, die cuts, brads: Simple Stories Cozy Days; Alphabet, date stamp: American Crafts; Font: American Typewriter; Adhesive: Therm-o-Web; Other: sewing machine, thread

After printing my photos to 2.5” square, I cut several of the Simple Stories patterned papers to the same size, adding a stitched border around each one for a homespun feel. I arranged them across the page, allowing them to spill off all four edges of the layout. Just like in quilting, make sure to keep the margin between your squares even for a consistent look.

I used foam squares to adhere my photos, which pops them up a bit higher than the patterned paper squares and helps them to stand out at a focal point.

To incorporate journaling and a title, I used a lined patterned paper border down the left side of the layout. The light background allowed for a block of typed journaling and my chipboard title to stand out from the colorful background.

What project in the new issue will inspire you to create some autumn awesomeness? We’d love to see what you create! Be sure to tag us @sctmagazine on social media if you share your project!
