Welcome to the 4 o’clock hour of our International Scrapbook Day celebration! We just love simple ideas when creating, and in this post, Wendy Sue Anderson will show you how to take a simple shape and elevate it to create something wonderful on your page! Let’s take a look!

Hi friends, and Happy National Scrapbook Day! I’m Wendy Sue and I am so excited to be able to share a fun NSD challenge with you! I am a self-proclaimed banner addict. I love creating fun banners to hang around our home for special occasions. I love adding banners to my layouts as embellishments or accents. I am fond of adding banners to cards and other paper projects, too. Pretty much, if I can add a banner, I will do it! So it may come as no surprise that I wanted to incorporate banners into my challenge today. What may be a surprise, however, is that the challenge is to make the banner the focal point of the layout, not just a small addition!

I chose to make an extra large banner to drape across the entire page, then I filled the banner with photos and embellishments! I wanted to incorporate as many banner types and styles as I could. Here’s a look at the different banner ideas I used:

I chose to use the Farmhouse Summer collection by Carta Bella Paper for my layout. I just love the soft colors and cozy patterns on the papers and embellishments.

The fact that it included so many banners was a happy accident!

To match the mood of the paper, I added lots of machine stitching, a bit of distressing, and loads of layering!

I’m usually one to add a lot of journaling to my pages, but this time, I decided to let the embellishments and one simple line of journaling do the talking. Sometimes that’s all you need to tell the story!

Now it’s your turn! How would YOU make a banner the focus of your layout? Have fun!
