Hey there, friends! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today to share what I’ve been creating lately using the May 2022 SCT Sampler! Let’s take a look at what was included in this month’s package:

Two beautiful collections combined—the Sweet Rush collection from Vicki Boutin and American Crafts, along with the Happy Heart collection from Pinkfresh Studio—make up the bulk of this beautiful Sampler, with the  added bonus of the exclusive “sweet” metal die as a cherry on top! I just loved the bright, happy colors in this Sampler, and had so much fun creating an 8-1/2 x 11-inch layout to record an equally happy day. Take a look!

First, I LOVE being able to take small amounts of a collection, like you receive in the Sampler, and create. It makes the process much faster for me, and I find that I am more creative when I have less to work with. For instance, having two 6 x 6-inch pieces of the rainbow arch papers dictated the way that I designed the overall layout! I knew that I wanted the bottom large rainbow to draw your eye to the photo. Once I had that in place, I realized that the other arched rainbow provided the perfect amount of balance on the opposite side, and the two together created a lovely diagonal line of colour on my layout.

My photo was matted with two other 6 x 6-inch papers and popped up with dimensional adhesive. That’s when I decided that the majority of my embellishment would fall along the rainbow at the base of my layout. My title was created with the “hello sunshine” phrase die cut from the Sweet Rush collection, along with the “day” die cut from Happy Heart. I love the mix of fonts and how the fit together perfectly. The spacing created the perfect area for my journaling, which I framed using a Happy Heart chipboard frame. A fussy cut flower on the left side softened the hard line against the white cardstock, and I wanted to create a triangle of circular elements, so I added the lime die cut and cut a circle from another piece of Sweet Rush patterned paper.

This was where I felt that something was missing, and I needed something to draw your eye to the title and journaling. The Sweet Rush stencil provided the perfect horizontal lines to achieve this! Instead of inking the entire stencil, I masked off the stencil with Pixie Tape from Therm O Web, leaving two lines that fit perfectly around the word “day” in my title, and used The Stamp Market’s cobalt ink to add the “xo” pattern. Don’t feel as though you can only use a stencil to create an entire background—masking off works wonders!

For balance, I recreated the same masked-off “xo” pattern at the top left, helping guide your eye to my photo.

I love using odd numbers on my page designs, so to add a third embellishment grouping, I topped my photo with the “dream life” Happy Heart die cut and Sweet Rush flower die cut that framed the corner of my photo beautifully.

I just love how this page turned out! It’s colourful, happy and perfectly sums up a lovely day. But I couldn’t stop there… I wanted to use up some of my scraps and play with that lovely stencil a bit more!

Supplies | May 2022 SCT Sampler; Therm O Web Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo, Deco Foil Transfer Sheet: Mystic Rainbow; American Crafts Vicki Boutin Color Kaleidoscope palette knife

I created a quick and simple card using scraps from my layout and played with the stencil by using Therm O Web’s Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo and a palette knife to add four rows of the “xo” design to the base of the patterned paper. After letting it sit overnight to dry, I topped it with the Mystic Rainbow Deco Foil Transfer Sheet and ran it through my die cutting machine to adhere the foil to the gel.

The “hello” vellum ephemera piece from the Sweet Rush collection started off my sentiment, which I finished with the “you” die cut from Happy Heart. I love how these two collections play so well together, and I had so much fun using them for the first time with my Sampler!
