The SCT 12th birthday celebration rolls on! And I’m so happy to be a part of the festivities!
I was thinking about where I was in my life when Scrapbook & Cards Today was born 12 years ago. At the time, I was a high school English teacher and Spell Bowl coach in Fort Wayne, IN, and scrapbooking was my passion. Two years later, I quit teaching to pursue a career in the industry. What joy that leap of faith has given me! And now, I have the unique opportunity to be the Editor-in-Chief of SCT. #blessed for sure!
To celebrate this auspicious occasion, I decided to create a birthday card with a riot of color and an interactive shaker element.
I stamped the Center Cut Heart background stamp from Simon Says Stamp on white, and then I went to town coloring it with my polychromos colored pencils from Faber Castell. I’ve been working on my pencil blending, so it was fun to practice on this gorgeous design. My sister was an art teacher, and her tips were very helpful to achieving the final look.

Once I had my background done, I cut (by hand) the heart in the middle for an opening, and then I knew it HAD to turn into a shaker card, so I added acetate to create a barrier for the sequins, heat embossed the sentiment on cardstock, and added dimensional foam adhesive and sequins to finish it off.
The result? A happy and colorful card befitting a happy and colorful magazine birthday. ❤️

I love the idea of coloring in the card like you did! Why did I never think of that!!??!! (Duh.moment!) Elle’s Studio Kit is adorable… I love peeps and the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the bunny stamp was PEEPS!!! A layout of peeps, since the entire family loves them! Would also love to try another small pocket album-1st one was a tad frustrating, but the cards in the kit would work great for a pocket album or Easter Mini!!!!
Last summer I finally found my BFF after 15 yrs of searching the 50 states for her! She is also a HIGH SXHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER!!!!! She LOVES Tim Hortons, but now lives in the New Jersey area and there are none around!!! So, I’m planning on surprising her with a big Tim Hortons love present!
